Jon Stockton, Divisional General Manager, TNT Business Solutions, on his own ‘Oscar night’

Well another Oscars night has been and gone leaving behind it the usual trail of tears, celebrations and gushy acceptance speeches with the winners thanking every member of the known world when picking up their award!

Yes, it’s rampant overkill, sugary sweet and all glitz and glamour, but the Oscars still possess the vital ingredients required for any industry award – the recognition of a peer group and the backing of judging experts.

And, while we may have been lacking the line-up of Hollywood’s finest, we at TNT celebrated our own equivalent of the Oscars when we took centre stage at the annual Premises & Facilities Management (PFM) Awards.

We topped the Partners in Corporate Social Responsibility category thanks to our unique working relationship with key clients, Barclays Bank and Lloyds TSB, delivering both cost savings and drastically reduced CO² emissions into the bargain.

By creating a pick up and delivery network that served both banks at the same time we’ve managed to cut our mileage by 5 million miles and reduce our carbon footprint by a staggering 2,631 tonnes. With high street branches in the same towns (and often on the same streets) it was just commonsense to merge a service which enabled us to do our best for both our customers and the environment in which we operate.

I may be biased, even immodest, but is it any wonder that the PFM judges thought it was worthy of an award!

We faced stern competition but, rather like Nick Park, Oscar winner and creator of Wallace and Gromit, our award came from innovation, commitment, teamwork and creativity.

Corporate social responsibility is a big focus across our industry and we’re totally committed to doing ‘our bit’ for the planet. With this in mind we made sure nothing went to waste at our after-show party that would have given many an Oscar winning shin-dig a run for its money!

I can't believe more businesses don't take that approach to the environment. It seems a waste that so many companies just have a silo mentality to green issues. If we all looked to work together more then we can save money and the environment. We're all in this together after all.
