Aid for Africa
TNT’s twinning relationship with Tanzania has opened up new perspectives on life for one member of the TNT Business Solutions team.
For just 7p a day - £25-a-year - a malnourished child can be fed and educated under the auspices of the World Food Programme’s (WFP) School Feeding Programme.
Since 2004, TNT UK has raised funds for WFP to provide school meals and learning for more than 7,000 children.
The funding also allows TNT people to be seconded to work in Tanzania on specific projects. A group of TNT employees visits Tanzania each year to witness how funds generated by employees are put to optimum use by the WFP.
Senior Contracts Manager Sandra Oswald took a secondment from her job to help the WFP in its work feeding and educating youngsters in the Singida region of the country.
She said: “The bond between TNT and WFP acted as the catalyst for my own African adventure. It was a truly amazing experience and it has certainly changed my outlook on life.
“I met fantastic people who lived in such poor conditions but always managed to smile. We helped them to install water tanks at four schools and I really wanted to return to see how a supply of fresh, clean water made a difference to these people’s lives.”
This year, TNT Business Solutions’ employees joined their colleagues from the rest of the business to raise £30,000 for the WFP in Tanzania.
